Tad enjoys the simple things in life: food, booze, sex, and seshing wicked berms on a singlespeed. Watching a good movie with a good friend and a good beer definitely falls in that category for him. To Tad pluralizing the first three nouns in that last sentence cubes its awesomeness, so, he says, "helping Filmed by Bike happen is gonna give me the Malt Liquor Crazy Eye."

Tad does not come to the jury lightly: North American Cycle Courier Champion, 2002; 2003 West Side Invite, 1st place polo tournament; 2004 Organ Donor Invitational Tallbike jousting tournament, 2nd place; 2005 West Side Invite, 1st place main race, 2006; Elizabeth told me I made really awesome deviled eggs, and she would know, May 2008; Portland State University President's list, fall 2008 (we could go on, but surely you get the point.)

ADRIANA MAZA
|
Culinary Artist
Adriana is on a mission to bring her ecclesiastical fervor for fine art to FBB. "My style modus operandi," she says, "is that of auto da fé." As a trained culinary arts professional, Adriana has a discerning attention to nuance that she uses to produce outcomes that elevate one's palette and dissipate satisfaction.

Adriana says that she is "incredibly excited and humbled to be a part the jury."

ANDY MEEKS
|
Optimist, New Guy
Affiliations: Biking the Underground Railroad, RUBARB
Andy recently threw caution to the wind, left a good job, family, friends and a life in Boston to move to Portland. Andy doesn't yet have a job, but he's been dubbed "The happiest Portland transplant I've ever met." by the person who nominated him for our jury. Andy describes Portland as "a special place defined by its small nuances and finer details. Much like an outstanding movie."

Andy is an eternal optimist and environmental advocate who believes in "the power of the pedal to build communities, as well as to challenge antiquated ways of thinking about ourselves and our world." Andy is excited to be on the Filmed by Bike jury "to immerse myself in a diversity of movies that will surely inspire and entertain with all that is possible on bicycles."

JAMES MOORE
|
Bike Mechanic
In the words of the many (record number) people who nominated James to the Filmed by Bike jury:

"The man loves and lives bikes, and films, and talking about films, and talking about bikes. "

"James built himself a pink and gold bike to match our kickball team colors and equipped it with a bubble machine, fitted under the seat that left a trail of bubbles in his wake as he rode. If that doesn't convince you that he is a worthy juror for your event, really, nothing will."

"James is responsible for changing my life by convincing me brave city traffic and the hills of Seattle, where I live. I am a much happier person now. I also can't think of anyone who would be more excited to be a part of Filmed by Bike than James."

"I think Filmed by Bike is a really positive, inclusive gathering for bike lovers," James says. "I'm really stoked to be on the jury because I've really quickly become involved in an event that so special to the Portland bike community."

STEVE MUELLER
| TV Director, KATU
While being a TV director is Steve's real job, he says his passion is his "after school job" at a local bike shop. Steve rides as often as possible and this year his project of recapturing his youth was to ride the Seattle to Portland ride in one day.

Steve is excited to be on the Filmed by Bike jury because he enjoys being an active part of the Portland bike scene. "On a bike," Steve says, "we're all young at heart."

NICKEY ROBARE
|
OLLIE Youth Media instructor, Filmmaker
Affiliations: IPRC, ZOOBOMB, The Politics of Dancing

Nickey is a life-long filmmaker and cyclist. She also enjoys radical feminism, vegan baking, sewing, dance parties and playing the ukulele. She is currently working on a conceptual video installation about women and food and a documentary about the Independent Publishing Resource Center.

Nickey was the winner of the Media Reform Award sponsored by Utne Magazine at the 2005 Media That Matters Film Festival. Her films have been shown at the True West Cinema Festival, the Bicycle Film Festival, the Portland Women's Film Festival, Women in the Director's Chair, PDX Fest, Bike Porn, and, of course, Filmed by Bike.

Nickey says, "with a decade of film snobbery and bike riding under my belt, the Filmed by Bike jury is something I've been itching to be a part of for years." She loves subjecting the world to her rigid opinions of what's quality, so this is a great opportunity for her.

AMY J. RUIZ | Strategic Planning and Sustainability Policy Advisor
Amy Ruiz is the former news editor at the Portland Mercury newspaper where she covered bike issues across the spectrum, from Portland's bike fun to the city's nitty gritty transportation policies. These days, you can find her in the office of Mayor Sam Adams, digging into planning and sustainability issues.

As a relatively new cyclist, Amy is looking forward to being on the Filmed by Bike jury and maybe finally learning to ride with no hands.
