1. AMTRAK IS FULL
Michael from Cranked Mag just sent word that he's trying to figure out how to get himself and his bike down here for the festival because, apparently, Amtrak is already full of bikes that weekend. Hmmm, a bunch of bikes coming from Seattle on April 13th, I wonder where they're headed...
We've also know of crews coming from Vancouver B.C., Corvallis, Eugene, Salem and San Francisco.
2. KILLER PRIZES
Our raffle is always hot, but this year it's hotter than ever. For one, we've got the Electra Amsterdam, donated by Bike Gallery, that we just can't stop talking about (see sidebar for details). But we've got other unique cool stuff too, like use of the Voodoo Doughnuts "world's smallest doughnut shop stage" for your band, a Spaceman flask holster AND FLASK from Ahearne Cycles, and so much more. Check out the list and be sure to bring your dollars on the night of the festival.
3. NO ADVANCE TICKET SALES - GET THERE EARLY
These days, I answer a lot of questions, but I don't answer a lot of different questions. Pretty much all I say these days is "No, there are no advance ticket sales." and "Well, we can't guarantee anything, but we recommend you get there a half hour early to get in." I'd like to talk about something else, but that's what people are asking.
So, that's my advice to you, too. In previous years, getting there a half hour early was plenty of time to queue up and make it in before we cut people off. This year, however, uh, I just can't say. Let's just say Filmed by Bike is off the hook and it's gonna be hot. But seriously (that wasn't serious?), a half hour should be good. And besides, there's always Saturday and Sunday if you don't make it in on Friday, right? Tickets for Friday go on sale at 6:50p and 8:45p that night.
The Opening Night Throwdown is a raucous affair, not for the faint at heart. Expect noisy crowds and a drop-dead wild atmosphere. We don't call it a Throwdown for nothin'.
4. MOVIEMAKER PROFILES
The people who submit their movies to Filmed by Bike are a diverse, talented bunch. On the blog I've been engaging in interviews with them. Some of them are professional designers and animators, others are just bike enthusiasts sharing their more creative sides with us through film. Martin Reis, from Toronto, is so excited to have made it into the festival again this year (last year's piece was La Fuga di Olmo) that he's dedicating his work this year to the people of Portland and he really wishes he could join us. Check out some of them here.
5. NEWSLETTER DRAWING
This newsletter's drawing is for one free pass to get in on Friday. That's right - to waiting in line, no wondering if you'll make it in. To win you need to be the first to e-mail Info@FilmedByBike.org with your name and postal address.
